ZITHER For several years, SITRA has been committed to the WATER-WASTE-ENERGY triad, a strategy that has allowed it to make significant inroads into the biogas and biomethane sector. This philosophy has enabled it to establish itself as a key player in Spain's energy transition. In fact, SITRA participates in some of the sector's main projects, such as the four biogas generation plants, which use wastewater, that have built with anaerobic reactors (two in Murcia, one in Jaén and another in Valencia), the waste treatment plant, with anaerobic digestion and vibrating membranes, for the generation of biogas and the production of liquid biofertilizers (in Valencia) and the biomethane and fertilizer production plant (in Toledo).
For this reason, the company is participating this week in the International Bioenergy Congress, along with other leading figures in the field, with the aim of ensuring a sustainable future and increasing the country's energy independence.
“We have always wanted to invest in sectors that protect the environment and support the circular economy, so our path towards renewable gas production has been a natural one. Furthermore, SITRA's industrial wastewater treatment activity generates waste with the potential to produce biogas, which, once purified, becomes biomethane, a renewable energy source that is completely comparable to natural gas. Therefore, as soon as we saw that our technology and experience allowed us to enter this sector, we had no hesitation in doing so,” explains Ricardo Sáez, CEO of SITRA.
Biogas and biomethane production in Spain is currently experiencing a boom, with a growing number of players entering the sector. In this context, SITRA stands out as a strategic player due to its ability to be involved in all phases of the process. In other words, the company plays a significant role as a technology provider, builder, operator, developer, and investor in biogas and biomethane plants. This diverse portfolio has allowed them to achieve a expertise which has allowed them to work on highly complex projects such as the Montagut Organic Fertilizers waste treatment plant or the Biomethane and fertilizer production plant of Biometano Montes de Toledo, which are under construction.
The company's efforts have always been focused on sustainability and innovation, priorities that have so far led to continuous growth, with a 62% increase in revenue in 2022 compared to the previous year, and a 30% increase in its workforce during the same period. However, its commitment to biogas and biomethane has become increasingly important to its business due to the significant potential these technologies offer for decarbonizing industry and achieving energy self-sufficiency.
In this regard, participation in the International Bioenergy Congress presents an opportunity to share knowledge with other stakeholders in the sector and establish synergies that will drive innovation and the development of renewable energies. Furthermore, this event offers an annual platform to observe industry trends and discuss the challenges it faces, thus playing a fundamental role in accelerating the transition to a sustainable future.
