SITRA expands its range of biotechnology products. The company's Chemical Products division, within its BIOZYM range, has developed a series of reagents specifically formulated to increase purification capacity in biological processes for industrial wastewater treatment.

Among other applications, this product helps to solve the problems caused by the imbalance that usually occurs in the relationship between substrates, nutrients and chemical trace elements necessary for optimal biological purification, in an environment that also stands out for the strong variability of the pollutant load provided.

The reagents were developed in SITRA's laboratory using sludge samples from industrial wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs), where these solutions were then applied. Among other benefits, their use has promoted nitrification, denitrification, and organic matter degradation reactions, depending on the requirements.

As an example, in tests carried out at a wastewater treatment plant belonging to a company in the metalworking industry, whose wastewater had a high nitrogen load and a low organic matter load, the addition of this substrate achieved nitrogen removal efficiencies of practically 95%, with parameters in the effluent below 5 mg/l. This figure is well below the maximum limit, established at 15 mg/l.
