SITRA has been awarded the contract for the expansion of the Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant (EDARI) that serves the packaging recycling plant located in the province of Badajoz and managed by one of the world's largest producers and recyclers of rigid and flexible plastic.
Specifically, in the first phase, the company will carry out a pilot project using ultrafiltration membranes to treat wastewater from the washing stream, in order to recover the caustic soda used for cleaning the plastic.
In later phases, the current physicochemical treatment will be replaced by a dissolved air flotation (DAF) system, and new equipment will be added to improve pretreatment and eliminate microplastics generated before reaching the facility.
Similarly, an expansion of the current biological treatment system will be carried out, which will be completed with the contracting of technical assistance for the operation and the supply of products associated with the treatment and purification of industrial wastewater generated by said industry for a period of five years.
With all this, SITRA will manage a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) that will treat an average flow of 1.200 m3/d with an organic pollutant load of 5.000 mg/l from the plant, which is responsible for treating PET by crushing, washing and extrusion to convert it into raw material to make new containers, a process that responds to the concept of circular economy.
