With the aim of contributing to the improvement in the management of this sludge, ZITHER The company has organized a webinar entitled "Sludge Management and its Technologies." At this event, the company explored the key technologies that can optimize the management of sludge generated in wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) across various industries. This process is particularly relevant in biological and physicochemical treatments, as well as in any other case where a concentrated amount of contaminant is rejected.

Once generated, sludge must be properly managed, which represents an added cost for companies, both for the management service and for the energy consumption associated with its transfer and storage at the source. Therefore, reducing the weight of this sludge is essential to minimizing these costs.

How can this weight be reduced?

Several technologies are available on the market designed to reduce both the weight and volume of sludge, ensuring its suitability for treatment and minimizing costs. In the webinar, SITRA addressed the problems associated with sludge, the applicable regulations, the different ways to manage it, and focused on two of the most widespread technologies: the centrifuge and the screw dewatering system.

During the session, the characteristics of these technologies and their suitability for different sectors and waste types were presented, allowing participants to determine which is best suited for each specific process. For example, in the case of the screw dehydrator, specific advantages were highlighted, such as its low maintenance costs, very low energy consumption, long lifespan, and minimal environmental impact.

All of this was explained by Borja Guijarro, Coordinator of Engineering Studies and Projects, who has almost a decade of experience in the sector. Borja, a graduate with a Master's degree in Industrial Engineering, is dedicated to finding the best technology for the company's clients. ZITHER, being an expert in integrated water cycle management solutions and bioenergy.

Thanks to this webinar, the company has been able to delve deeper into the technological solutions available for sludge management in wastewater treatment plants, a crucial aspect for many industries in their search for efficiency and sustainability.
