The EOLUTION project, spearheaded by APRIA SYSTEMS, a technology company specializing in integrated solutions for wastewater treatment and purification, in collaboration with SITRA, has reached its final phase. The initiative, which began in 2017 and has enabled the development and validation of a treatment and disinfection system for wastewater from the industrial washing of fruits and vegetables to facilitate its reuse, has been successfully completed.

Specifically, the process, which has been installed as a pilot project in a fruit and vegetable industry in the province of Castellón, has demonstrated its effectiveness in disinfecting process water, reducing operating costs and reducing byproducts in these disinfection processes.

The process, which SITRA intends to implement on an industrial scale, uses a hybrid technology based on the simultaneous combination of electro-oxidation and ozone technologies in the water resulting from the washing process of fruits and vegetables, allowing, in addition to disinfection, an improvement in the washing cycle of the products and a reduction in water and energy consumption of the facilities themselves.
